Tremella mushrooms : The Ancient Beauty secret
An unsung hero of the medicinal mushroom world. Not as bold and out there as lions mane or as freaky and fabulous as cordyceps just quietly and beautifully doing her thing since time began (well for a very long time).
Used for thousands of years in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for disease prevention, boosting immunity, and improving skin appearance - she gained the moniker ' The beauty mushroom' with extracts being used in products to help reduce the signs of ageing .
PLANTS HAVE COLLAGEN TOO
Compounds in tremella have been shown to help promote collagen production in humans. Whilst protecting intra and extracellular damage. Its fine paper thin skin retains freshness and ability to fight off pathogens using these compounds and as humans have similar pathways and receptors to fungi, so we can reap the benefits also.
THE ANTI-AGEING MUSHROOM?
Tremella helps to reduce the signs of ageing, naturally performing the role of otherwise expensive (and chemical laden) creams and serum - it's time to forget them, and rise up above their £BN marketing tactics. Tremella is our friend here - it's high in glucuronic acid, a building block of hyaluronic acid - which is a key component for skin moisture retention. Hyaluronic acid also helps to increase blood flow and promote collagen and elastin synthesis.
THE INFLAMMATION PROBLEM
A major pathology in the west is inflammation. The root symptom of many illnesses and one of the first to be addressed in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Reduce the inflammation and storm of proteins that come with it and your body can start to heal itself.
Tremella is mainly composed of mannose, rhamnose, glucuronic acid, glucose, galactose, xylose, and fucose. This combination has shown in studies to significantly reduce cytokines (our inflammation markers). Yes please and thanks!
CELL PROTECTION
Stress, toxins, age and inflammation all contributes to cellular damage and degradation. Antioxidants help support optimum cell growth and repair. High in polysaccharides with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Studies have shown polysaccharides in tremella to help fight oxidative damage to cells.
SUN PROTECTION FROM THE INSIDE
We all know that a healthy relationship with UV rays is important (check our last post about sun protection). Due to its high moisturising content and anti oxidant effect, tremella polysaccharides have shown in some studies to have protective effects on UVA-induced oxidative stress cells
We love the delicate flavour, perfect to add into coffee or tea and and an indulgent addition to our Angelic Rose hot chocolate elixir.
